Thyroid and pregnancy - what to know?

Thyroid hormones are very important for the health of both mother and foetus.

Before pregnancy:

  • Jākontrolē TSH līmenis – optimāli <2.5 mIU/L
  • If hypothyroid - increase the dose of L-thyroxine
  • If hyperthyroidism - condition to be stabilised

During pregnancy:

  • TSH monitoring in each trimester
  • Monitoring autoimmune diseases
  • Antibody testing (TPO, TG)

After giving birth:

  • Risk of postpartum thyroiditis
  • Breastfeeding and medication
